        It is hard to believe that it has been 25 years and 10 sequels since The Fast and the Furious was released in theaters, surprising everyone by the massive cultural moment it created while also worrying many with the rowdiness of the opening weekend’s most enthusiastic patrons. I specifically remember wondering who was actually watching the movie given the large crowd of car owners in the parking lot, posturing by revving engines and bouncing hydraulics. In celebration of this anniversary, The Fast and the Furious was re-released in theaters along with this newly remastered 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray disc, featuring Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision. The disc also comes with all new extras, in addition to over two hours of previously released content.

        Action films may be one of the hardest genres to convincingly pull off. Even with the largest budgets, it can be difficult to make the fight choreography an exciting spectacle while remaining grounded enough for audiences to believe it is possible. One of the greatest assets an action director can have is the ability to scale things appropriately, and William Kaufman is able to make the budget of Man of War feel much larger than it is with skillful directing. It helps that the screenplay co-written by Kaufman has larger themes represented through the intimate relationships of a handful of characters. Not only is this how lower budget action should be accomplished, but there are also more than a few things the major studios could learn from Man of War.
