The latest season of “Dancing with the Stars” is underway, and following the taping of an episode on Monday night many of the cast members made their way to Pacific Theaters at The Grove in
for a special
fundraiser premiere of the dance film Make
Your Move. The special event screening was in order to support The Dizzy Feet Foundation, a non-profit organization which provides scholarships and funding for dance education programs in the U.S. Los Angeles
Director Duane Adler warmed up the red carpet and anxious fans until the stars arrived, describing Make Your Move as being a “film about love,” above all else. With a star-crossed-lovers narrative, Make Your Move is indeed a film about love but perhaps not as much as it is a film about dancing. The end result is something close to “Romeo & Juliet” within the world of night clubs, with battle tap-dancing replacing the clever quips of Shakespeare’s banter.
The film stars longtime “Dancing with the Stars” competitor Derek Hough, who arrived after the taping with his latest dance partner and girlfriend, Olympic snowboarder Amy Purdy. Derek’s close friend Mark Ballas also showed his support in attendance, along with several competitors in this season’s celebrity dance competition.
Make Your Move marks the American film debut of Korean pop star BoA, who arrived with a bit of chaos from fans in attendance. I witnessed one woman literally falling over in an attempt to get a picture with her camera phone. Her celebrity is large enough to expect this kind of behavior in
though many Americans are only just now discovering her talents. South Korea
Additional cast in attendance included Izabella Miko (Coyote Ugly, Clash of the Titans), Wesley Jonathan (Roll Bounce, “What I Like About You”). Will Yun Lee (The Wolverine, Total Recall), and Miki Ishikawa. Other celebrities to attend included Jenna Elfman and Toni Basil. See gallery of red carpet arrivals below.
