On one hand, I have to admire the resolve and dedication of director/writer/producer/editor/actor Aaron Schoenke, a YouTuber who took the idea to create an R-rated superhero similar to “Power Ranger”s with several cast members of the children’s program. Not only is that a bold (perhaps slightly misguided) idea for a film, it failed to reach its initial crowdfunding Kickstarter goal in 2019, but that still did not stop Schoenke, who started another successful campaign in 2020. Unfortunately, the story behind the making of the film is far better than anything contained within it, which probably should come as no surprise given the quality of the series serving as inspiration.

For some people there is nothing more terrifying than a spider, and horror movies have long used the woods as a location of known and unknown terrors, so it should come as no surprise that the creature-feature Don’t Move combines and amplifies these two elements. The results are mixed, thanks mostly to sub-par digital effects and some cheesy writing/acting, but there is enough fun in Don’t Move to make for a decent midnight movie with a group of game friends. While it might not offer many truly scary moments, there laughs to be had, whether they are intended or not.
