It was decades
ago that somebody came to the realization that the 1993 action film, Sniper,
would make a decent launching point for a series of low-budget films made for
TV and home entertainment. There have been 11 of these sequels, the most recent
released this year, along with Seven Snipers. Although Seven Snipers
does not belong to the Sniper film series, it feels like it may as well
have been. Besides returning characters and a loose connection to the first
film’s protagonist, the main elements of the Sniper franchise are long-range
gunfights and limited budgets. Seven Snipers has no shortage of rifles
and takes place at a single location, perfect for budget and providing audiences
with what they expect. Unfortunately, the quality is about as impressive as a DTV
Sniper film, despite a better cast.
